I do not own a m5 but have the 650GC. I do notice some harsh shifts when the engine or lets say the transmission is cold, but I did not get it on my old x6.
Personally, I think the issue is related with the v8 engines e.g N63tu and s63tu.
Some members on 6post suggest the harsh shifts for ZF 8 speed auto tansmission is normal when the transmission is cold. DCT shifts faster but harsher is also for sure.
For me, once you warm up the car and it shifts normal, it should be ok.
