iOS support for the vehicle features is hit or miss. Android rarely ever works, but it depends on your phone. Most OEMs tweak their software to add in additional support.
Windows Phone 8 - so far - has the best level of integration. I can even sync contact pictures to iDrive and see them when I dial or receive a call.

With the Windows 8 phone and iPhone5, can you give more details on what level of integration is really working? Office (text and mail using gmail)? What is not working?
- phone book - accessing your contacts and addresses, contact images?
- email display?
- sending emails?
- text display?
- sending texts?
- Calendar / tasks / notes?
- Audio playback via Bluetooth with operation via control display?
- Display of audio title information
- USB connection and operation via control display?
- BMW connected apps?
