I just registered my new car at the California DMV. I got the car in az but live in ca. First disappointment was a $350 late fee for not registering it in my first 20 days of having the car. I was 27 days vs 20 so one week late. Second disappointment / surprise was I had to get smoged which added a week to my delay in this process. Third disappointment / area of confusion. For the registration cost that is tied to vehicle value. What value should it be? The price on the car? The captialized cost? Or the residual cost in 39 months?
