Ok I get it now. I knew the turbos are on top but I was getting confused with the direction of airflow. Airflow comes in through the sides and out the middle. That "junction" I think is just the diverter valve. I keep forgetting that the whole thing is a reverse flow engine and the intake runners are where the exhaust headers would normally be.
