I make it a point to take my M5 on one trip every 2 weeks on a Wednesday(my day off).
Usually I will do any of the following:
Stamford, CT to Uncasville, CT (160 miles round trip)
Stamford, CT to Newport, RI (280 miles round trip)
Stamford, CT to Philadelphia, PA(260 miles round trip)
Stamford, CT to Westerly, RI (200 miles round trip)
All are great trips that I have no problem doing over and over. The great thing is the number of settings for the M5 and how drastically different the car acts regarding each one.
I find that in all comfort mode the car feels almost like a town car, gliding down the interstate. But with the push of a button you can put it into beast mode and take on nearly anything.
Great all around car for long trips. Comfort and play - on demand!
EDIT: I used to do the SAME trips in my e93 M3 - not nearly as comfortable!
