Thanks so much for the kind words, everyone!

Our next step will be to learn about the M5 in it's original state. Although we are privileged to have access to information directly from BMW, even this takes our knowledge only so far, and independent testing and verification must bridge the knowledge gap.

In the coming weeks, AMS will install a host of sensors and testing equipment on our M5, and log tens of test hours on their in-house Dynojet and Mustang dynos. We will measure and datalog parameters like exhaust system back pressure, boost pressure, intake air temperature, exhaust gas temperature, etc... to determine where the car is now, and where we need to go to achieve our goals.

Before we do all this, we will also need to evaluate the design of some of the car's more critical hardware, and that's what brings these juicy bits of S63tu engine to our facility, and also to the eyes of our M5Post audience.

Below are photos of the original components found in the S63tu engine, including the piston, connecting rod, wrist pin, rod bolts, and piston rings. These components will be measured, digitized, and evaluated by ourselves and the engineers at AMS Performance in an effort to gauge their upper horsepower limit. As opposed to diving into the quest for maximum power completely blind, this knowledge will enable us to understand what the S63tu engine is capable of right out of the box, and where to stop before things get expensive.

Enjoy the photos, and stay tuned for more updates!
