I only considered the 991 Carrera S. The 991 base 3.4l engine is lovely but is about 50Kw down on the 3.8L engine in the Carrera S. it's noticeable. The 991 911 is more than about outright speed but IMO and for me the 3.4L engine didnt have enough grunt.
The 991 Carrera S would not beat with the M5 in a drag (put in some bends and the Carrera S with sports chrono/PDK/PDCC is vastly better) so the M5 would annihilate a base Carrera 3.4L.
For me i like straight line grunt (maybe my AMG background?!?) but i also highly value balance and handling...thats why i got both the 991S and the M5...fast great handling sports car with excellent straight line speed and the M5 - best super luxury sedan bar none!
