BMWs are known to be sensitive to oiled filters. If you want to splurge $$$ go with the Eventuri or AFE drop in dry ones.
re: cleaning off the oil - it is this oil which does the filtering leaving the filter to have larger pores (as compared to non-oiled ones). AFAIK - removing the oil may lead to more harm in the long-run.
