Dealership says 2.5 Liters per 1K miles is "Normal"

Hi All,

Per the BMW franchise dealership technician: "Up to 2.5 liters of oil per 1K miles is considered acceptable" is what I was told.

I find this a bit strange. I recently purchased a 2013 M5 and shortly after purchase the oil light came on. I topped it off with a liter of 0W-30 BMW oil. About 400 miles later, the light came back on and I brought it to the dealer for review. This type of consumption didn't seem normal to me.

Long story short, the dealership conducted an "oil consumption test" and said they didn't see any change in oil (over 130 miles) after topping it off with 2 liters. Which makes sense considering its effectively topped off one liter above the "max."

The dealer wrote on my paper that if it the light comes back on within 1K miles to bring it back they would work with a BMWNA technician to further diagnose the car.

This consumption is unacceptable to me. 25 liters of top offs between oil changes is ridiculous. How can BMW find this acceptable?
