Hard Braking Fixed My Squealing Brakes

I thought I'd write this thread in case someone searched for squealing brake fixes as I did when I got my M5 last week. It took a bit of reading to finally see one thread where a few members posted about trying the pad bedding in procedures to burn off or clean off whatever was stuck to the pads or rotors. I found a local highway that had little traffic at night and I hit 100 km/h and slammed my brakes hard without coming to a full stop. Did that a bunch of times and then slowly lowered the speed 20 km/h each stop until about 40. After that drove for 10 minutes with no braking to cool down the brakes and repeated the process again.

That did the trick though. Today my brakes are quiet on even the slowest and gentlest of braking. Not sure how long it will stay this way before it needs to be done again but it's better than spending bucks to swap fairly new stock pads.

What's funny is that I read the Driving Tips in the manual and under the title of Correct Braking, it states, "To keep the brake system in optimum condition, it is expedient to apply them at regular intervals corresponding to the vehicle character." I am wondering if that was translated from German. I guess they mean you should drive your M5 the way it was meant to be driven, fast and aggressive.

So there you have it.

Oh I'm also trying out the ArmorAll Quicksilver Brake Dust Repellent. Reviews seem positive so I'll report back later on whether it kept the wheels pristine or not.
