So the break-in was not exactly easy on the car... But it wasn't abusive.

I am now at 7100 miles and just added my 2nd qt two weeks ago.
I drove mine very gently for the first ~140 miles (no oil used) then drove similar to what you describe above to 1200 mile service (idrive oil display fell to 1/2); pointless, but I didn't know at the time that I'd missed the window for hard break-in.

Now I drive gently in general but with the odd full throttle/red line moments with the engine fully warm and the idrive oil display is at 1/4 left at just over 10K miles. No oil added since the 1200 mile service. I'm predicting that I've got 2K miles before the oil warning appears. The only thing that worries me is running this engine without a full level of oil for such an extended period of time. I know the handbook says you can & I did ask the service dept. if I could buy oil to top up (I have the service pack), but they were concerned that I may overfill (I'd like to think I'm not that incompetent). I wouldn't disagree it's better running at lower levels than risk overfilling, however, it still worries me.

Also, the only marks I have on my exhaust tips after ~6K miles (aftermarket fitted at 4K miles) are water marks. No carbon deposits at all although there were some on my factory exhaust at 4K miles.
