Something similar happened to Mazda several years ago on the Cougar Ace. The ship listed severely after a ballast dumping mistake. It remained listing for months while salvage operations were carried out. One of the salvagers was killed. Once the cars were finally unloaded their airbags were deployed and they were all crushed. Mazda couldn't confirm what several months on an incline would do to the cars so they made the expensive decision to write them off. In my opinion, it was the right decision.
