From my personal experience, when BMW launched the the 6MT in 2007 it wasn't nearly as hot as they'd anticipated. I was able to get an E60 M5 6MT for a ridiculous price (which had been sitting on the dealer's lot for 6 mos).

I enjoyed the 6MT for sure but when it was time to get an M3... it was DCT all the way. The 6MT in the M5 was too clunky...not as smooth as I'd hope. Perhaps they've changed it in the upcoming model.
