The reason is short supply. In Germany the entire supply sold out within 2 weeks and it is on back order.
I bought mine for $300 shipped from Germany in the first week it was released. The vendors I looked at on eBay Germany no longer have any stock.
So I think they didn't launch it in the US due to insufficient inventory.
