I bought the wheel and tire insurance. I believe the cost for three years was $1,770. That's about the cost of two wheels and tires mounted and balanced plus TPMS.
Given how bad the roads are in New York, a ruined rim and tire is a pretty likely scenario annually so I went ahead and bit the bullet. The deductible in New York State is $50 but this is the only carrier writing the policy in New York.
My decision was motivated in part by the experience of several New York drivers with Alpina B7s who were blowing tires every few thousand miles.
