Assuming you tapped into the correct wires, as Bish said the issue is a bad connection. The blue tap connector that comes with the V1 is for 14 - 18 guage wire. The OP in the installation guide used red tap connectors that are for 16 - 22 gauge wire. The wires you tap into in the overhead console seem to be either 18 or 20 gauge. To utilize the blue tap connector you need to take extra care that you get through the wire casing so the connector can make good contact. I also used blue tap connectors and to assure a tight connection I did two things:
1. Use needle nose pliers to squeeze the metal "U" the tap connector that the wire in the overhead console will slide into. Making it a little bit narrower will help the connector cut through the wire casing.
2. Once you snap the connector shut, gently slide it back and forth on the wire.

Try these two things and see if you can get it to work.
