If a "wet" filter is installed oil from the filter can be carried downstream with intake air charge covering MAP/MAF/temp sensors. Most problems are in vehicles with a hot/cold wire MAF sensor, as the oil can coke on the hot wire and gum and cover the cold wire.
With a daily driver which hopefully most M5's are right??? It is best to keep a regular paper air filter around to be installed while servicing the oiled filter. This gives you enough time to properly clean, dry and absorbs new oil into the filter media.

That is the best description of the maintenance required with oiled filters I have seen. Fantastic.
