Just as above said BMW approved Synthetic. I think BMW uses Castrol these days.
More importantly don't let a quick change location (jiffy lube, etc) do the oil change.
The Oil Cooler won't completely drain, but if you let it sit and drain for an hour...yes an hour, you'll notice that you'll drain an additional quart. Most quick lubes let it drain for 10 minutes or so.
