True, however I think the point people are making is that there is no indication whatsoever that BMW has finally figured out how to keep the pumps from failing. So, whether they replace your pump voluntarily (which is apparently going to happen with the recall), or you keep your original until it fails (as was standard procedure before) the end result is the same: you still have an HPFP that is prone to failure.

BMW has never sent me a letter stating that I should come in to have my fuel pump replaced. All I got was a letter extending my warranty. After reading the announcement I am under the impression that BMW will send a letter to all affected owners, like a recall.
