Sorry to dig up an old post but is this even true? When I was in the Navy, we used nitrogen in the tires to prevent inflation issues due to the air temp at ground level opposed to low temperature while flying. I would guess that nitrogen in car tires helps keep the same temperature after the tires have warmed up from use and also helps losing pressure when you have cold mornings. So in general, there is benefit and it's not "useless" in cars.
