The key is in the first 20 miles , to seat the rings to get an ideal seal for combustion . If this is not done you will have the oil consumption people complain about because oil will leak around the pistons and be burned in the combustion process . With the car at normal operating temp ( this is key , never drive any high performance engine hard cold) drive the car at full throttle up to peak torque 5500 rpm then ket the car engine brake back down and repeat . The engine braking is key , do not use you're brakes to slow down . This is why driving in the mountains is very successful too. Do this procedure in multiple gears , do not travel at constant speeds , i.e . Avoid the highway . The next 200 miles is important too , but when the car is brand new is the key time . Who knows perhaps someone at the dealerships blast down a back road did some of you easy break in people a favor when your car was being processed and seated the rings for you .
