This may be a stupid question, especially since I travel abroad a lot (but have never needed to fill up gas), I have heard that Americans often have issues with credit cards at gas stations in Germany/Europe. Are you aware of anything special that had to be done to get gas abroad or is it just like in the States (slide your card and fill up)?
Italy, France and especially UK can be problematic in remote areas if the convenience store is closed (off- hours) but Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland are generally fine. I prefer, however, to get buckets of cash at an ATM and avoid credit card fees for gas ...and use the cc primarily for hotels. My 650 vert drank A LOT of gas while in Europe; I'm sure your M5 will be even thirstier

Note: some US banks have international ATM fees so the above advice may be moot.

Some credit cards don't have international fees like the Marriott Signaure Card and Chase Sapphire Preferred.
