After reading all the posts I thought it would be good to contribute some facts here, so that some of the users can put this better in perspective:

Below is the link for official price list of BMW Turkey or Borusan Oto from their web site, today's date and easy to understand which car goes for how much in Euro (the column before the last) or in Turkish Lira (last column), if you check closely you will notice that most cars imported to Turkey are under 2.0 liter displacement which is a direct consequence of the previously explained taxing system that is recently tuned for further disadvantage for cars with bigger engines. You will also notice that a base M5 is 210,000 Euro so the posted car is loaded with options which adds around 67,000 Euro to the base price, which is more than a loaded E92 M3 if not E93 M3 cabrio in US!! If I remember correctly, BMW Turkey sold approximately 1500 new cars per month in 2011 and is probably the leader in the luxury segment with close competiton from Mercedes and Audi, so German premium brands are popular in Turkey as well! Turkey is fifth or sixth biggest auto market in Europe both in terms of production and sales. The country is the 16th biggest economy in the world, doing quite well compared to Euro Zone nowadays, so not at all poor in absolute terms.
