It may very well be legit.
1. The 20% increase in mpg has to come from somewhere. Tuning for max hp will likely negate any improvements over the v10
2. While hp figures are nice to brag about, it comes down to the lap times, handling, brakes ... I bet the m5 will be faster than the x5m. It's lighter for starters.
3. Torque torque torque. This car will please everyone with everyday drivability and brute force on the track
