It is true and it is amazing. I think it may have GPS "hinting," but it even picks up temporary speed signs and the "dynamic speed limits" in Germany that change for traffic conditions.

The really wild thing is that it also seems smart about signs that say "100 kph if raining" (car relied on rain sensor to pick the right speed limit) and time of day based speeds "120 kph between 2200 and 0600."

It clearly uses some GPS hinting, because when the sign says "end 60 kph zone" it knows to revert to the country-specific concept of "unlimited."
