I know what I'm about to say will generate a lot of angst, but here goes. Does anyone know what the MPG is on a Rolls Royce? No? I didn't think so because people who buy them don't care. What matters more to me is that I can fill up my M5 and go on a highway trip with everything set to default (comfort) and the range is well over 400 miles. I hate having to stop for gas every few hours. What is the actual MPG I don't know and I don't care. I realize this is easy for me to say because I don't drive my M5 every day- it is a fun, weekend car for me. My daily driver is a X5 35d, which probably averages 22-30 MPG. Furthermore, when I fill up the X5 on a long trip, the distance to empty resets to over 600 miles to empty. This puts a huge smile on my face. So, if mileage is important, I highly recommend one of the BMW models with the diesel engine. Save the M5 for fun.
