What year is the 135i your trying to trade?
I have the exact sentiments about the V8 and weekend car. My 1 is a 2009 only 26K in miles. I brought with me from Germany where I could open it up and drive it proper, but now where I'm at it just basically sits. I was stationed overseas for 15yrs and the hot rod itch couldn't be scratched so I'm still on the hunt.
I'm struggling between getting a turn key or project. I'm currently building up my toolbox/garage as well.

It doesn't look like the AC Cobra is going to happen...It's a split between two brothers and they can't agree.
