BMS suspects the hole was added to later models to improve airflow in to the factory airbox. Their flow testing showed the restriction being the primary air inlet and the extra hole/air horn raising that flow ceiling significantly. Blocking off the holes will restrict airflow and may lower higher RPM power levels. Bad idea in my opinion.
