if it doubt, put settings to program mode, AV, or TV mode and twiddle the dials.
if you aren't familiar with the camera yet, leave M alone for the trip... Just to be on the safe side anyhow... and try to keep light behind you whenever and wherever possible.
otherwise, have a blast and don't live the whole trip through the camera, remember to put it down once in a while and experience things yourself.
