The M5 is great. Massive HP & TQ. Total luxury + performance in one package. But a few things to keep in mind if you do take the plunge:

1) Try to get a '14 or later year model after the refresh. The earlier versions tend to burn oil. I had a '13 and added 1 quart monthly. The turbos also broke. Never tracked it. It was a semi-weekend car.

2) Get an extended warranty. Fixing the turbos on my '13 would have cost $20K. Repairing anything is expensive. Warranty saved me.

3) Insurance will be considerably more expensive with a V8 motor car. Check w/ your provider to get an estimate.

4) Try to test drive one to see if you're okay with the larger size. The car will be less nimble around corners than a 3 series. Maneuvering in and out of traffic on a freeway though isn't hard.

Good luck!
For those with no warranty then worn turbos can be removed being easily accessible and rebuilt at a specialist..2k max?20k would get you a whole fitted short exchange engine at least.
