ECU TUNiNG ... WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
I've become a little bored of my M5 so now I'm looking to increase the HP!!
I'm already running the MEISTERSCHAFT GTC + LXR PIPE which I'm extremely happy with ... So I'm thinking about doing a stage 1 ECU tune with the factory DP's ... However I've been going back and forth whether I should do the ECU tune or not but honestly I'm afraid of the following : 1. Can my dealer detect it the tune? 2. How reliable is the ECU tune? 3. Will there be a engine light? 4. In California we run 91 octane - will that be a problem? 5. Will I really FEEL a substantial difference? 6. What's the actuall power increase? WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?

Also, the car is already significantly traction limited for the amount of power it has in stock form. I would put money into some aftermarket wheels and wider tires before anything else on this car. Think about it.....what will an ECU tune do? The traction/stability mechansims are just going to kick in that much sooner and make all that extra power completely superfluous. With the DSC off, the stock tires will just spin endlessly and/or create dangerous uncontrolled conditions at higher speed. My vote is to get more rubber to the ground.

You have read my mind! I know I want the tune but I think I'm gonna wait for the answers to the same questions you have.

Waiting anxiously to see what becomes available, and if (how):
- The tune addresses increased tq as related to DCT - Any adverse effects on the diff, specifically the locking mechanism and tq. - Compatibility between tune and downpipes for max performance #'s Definitely do not want to be a beta tester for this...I'll let others take that responsibility.

you sound like you have never done a tune before??
good tunes nowadays are fully removable in the N54 world and should be the same for S63/N63. Data logging functionalities will tell you exactly what's going on and through CAN tools you can remove fault codes... Reliability? I am more concerned with the drivetrain but time will tell.. |

In all honesty as many whips that I've had the closest I've been to ECU tuning was a HKS EVC & COBB Tuning AccessPort on my R35 GTR.
Unless waaaaaay back in the day I had a 1990 Honda CRX that I did a Jackson Racing ECU swap and eventually when did a twin cam engine swap and turbocharged it I went to a ACCEL Direct Fuel Injection system ... But I don't think either was a true ECU tune ... lol Quote:

Our first tune went public nearly three months ago and thus far we have had rave reviews and zero complaints! Simply put, we can speculate and theorize and post self affirming information all day long however our suggestion would be to give the TYR TECHNOLOGIES tune a shot and let the results speak for itself! Any interest? What are you afraid of? |

FWIW - I know Dinan is working on their tune, which of course comes with a warranty....when it will be out, I have no idea. But they are currently running around the Bay Area, CA with their F10 M5 with a beta tune installed.
We will likely offer a labor discount once it comes out. |

I'm most afraid of these companies charging outrageous amounts for their tunes! It's a turbo engine, we should be getting power for cheap not this $6000 dollar crap!

It would be nice for someone to produce a great tune that didn't break the bank. Just like the lowering springs, we have to wait for the big dogs to come out swinging.

then there is Stage 1 , 2, 3 , 4 and infiniti .... $10K is not out of the question, once Dinan comes out with all the side upgrades.
Better save up, boys ! |
