Oil Consumption?

Is it normal having to add 1 quart of oil on 2014 ? I contacted BMW and they said its "normal" to bring it in and they will top it off for free. JusT hoping it doesn't lead to a bigger problem later on.

Same response they were given me, but it did not sit well with me. I had them go over the entire engine bay, they ended up finding a minor leak on the turbo oil lines.

That's what I am thinking how can this be normal. Going to take in next week to fix the coolant line leak and be firm with them with this oil consumption.

I don't know what defines normal. But this is expected on most engines. My car needed it's first quart at 700 miles, brand new , and then every 1-2k miles .
also have owned multiple AMG cars and all of them used oil from 1-7 k miles
some will tell you I have 30 k miles, zero drop added , some will tell you like what I am telling you that this is expected
don't worry about it and just enjoy the car.
The best explanation I heard from a senior technician: is that German sport engine allow some tolerance in the valves to allow expansion with extreme heat and thus they burn oil . I am not an engineer but it makes sense

You're correct. I guess it all comes down to how often. I normally top off every 1500-2k miles. I felt that was too frequent, BMW ended up finding a turbo oil line leak. So far it's only been 300 miles since replacement.

I have 53k miles and this week for the first time since new I got the min oil warning to add a quart. System says service due in 1200 miles..previous Panamera I had to religiously add 1 quart (as per owners manual).

My R8 used a quart every 1000 miles.
Panny turbo a quart every 2000 miles.
M5 quart every 2000 miles.

Seems like German engines like to use oil. I read it was designed that way from factory for lubrication purposes. The tolerances between the pistons and rings.

Added my first quart after 4000 miles and 2 HPDE weekends. Figured I would need much more often.

oil consumption varies between cars... there was a post on R8talk.com that explained that oil consumption was directly related to breaking in of engine. If engine was broken in properly, it used oil much more than engines there were abused during break in process. Not sure how much of that is true, but each engine will burn different amounts of oil.
