Freestanding navigation screen trend
I've noticed that BMW are starting to place their display screens as stand alone screens vs embedded in dash. The design looks a little clunky. You see this on the lci m5 new 328 and pics of the mew x5. I'm assuming that some people's embedded screens went and the labour to replace was so high it warranted a fix in the design. People's thoughts? Happen to anyone?

I think he may be confused as the pics showing the new steering wheel in the 2014 M5 LCI thread a few weeks ago showed an M6 interior. This was done to show the M6 steering wheel, but was stated in the thread that the M6 interior was used to highlight the steering wheel only.

in dash screen makes more sense with regard to feng shui and light shielding. that was before the touch screen idrive, which would be harder to reach with it in dash.

Yeah I agree the m6 nav is tacky. Looks like someone took a huge garmin and bolted it on there lol

Hence the reason why I have a hard time considering the M6 Coupe or even M6 Gran Coupe. I just can't get over how much I dislike the interior design of it.

Aha, did not realise it was the 6 series interior, I though a mid cycle refresh was a large change, that only if common screen failure was occurring would this have happened. Makes sense, but still see this trend on the other models, BMW I agree that this does look like a cheap garmin afterthought.
