Featured on BIMMERPOST.com If you already have a production number you are safe. Any orders placed it the last two days may not make the cut! |

Emailed by CA to confirm. Thinking the same. Could be another move, along with the lease terms, to keep the car "exclusive?"
Wondering if BMW had not anticipated the large # of euro deliveries. Not having done a 1st year M-car purchase in the past, is the number of ED consistent with the E39 and E60? |

Agree. I understand they were pretty pissed about certain dealers offering very low pricing to pull in high volumes of ED orders. Basically abusing the privilege of the ED program.

I have done a number of ED's over 10+ years. I can comfortably say that I think the number of M5s going out on ED is unprecedented. Probably well well well over anyone's projection.

I'm not convinced this ED pricing was a problem though, my sense is the ED demand was still a small fraction of total orders. Not that many people fly to Europe. Why should the pricing logic for the M5 be different to the 750i. The 750i ED doesn't come out of dealer inventory and it is a similar price of car. Remember that BMW M cars don't come of the regular production line. They are hand assembled by BMW M. There is limited capacity. I suspect they took a lot of orders, and they are maxed out when you also consider US delivery demand. They don't want the dealers gouging so they a moderating demand through lease pricing and limited ED allocation. They will start pricing more competitively once the pent up demand dies down. I suspect this is the most highly demanded M5 ever so it makes sense they find themselves moderating demand.

Hope this is true. I was aiming for a June 2013 ED. But with the current residual and with the M5 now coming out of dealer allocations, I may be looking at a 550 M sport...

The LCI of the 5 series in general is probably 2014, so a lot of people will be holding out for a 2014 M5 by June. This should lead to better deals at the end of the model year.

Not true. Beginning with the E39 M5, production has been done on the normal 5 series production line. The E34 was the last of the hand built M5s.

I am surprised there isn't more outrage on this forum regarding this topic. This is exactly the evil corporate behavior which makes me so angry. What does this mean for the rest of us who were planning on an ED in future?

I am very appreciative that M allocations were made available to the ED department. For many many (>30) years that wasn't the case. Considering BMW sells M cars cheaper to the USA than anywhere else in the world I for one am grateful.
