F10 M5 wishlist -- Dear Santa/BMW, please make the F10 M5 like this:
Well I've been seeing lots of threads about rumors, spy pix, etc...
I figure I'd just get a feel for what people really want out of the new F10, and more specifically the F10 M5. I remember a long time ago there was a thread on VWvortex about what people would want out of a special edition GTi/Jetta, after pages and pages of posts talking about BBS wheels, Joey-modded headlights, 1.8T engine mated with the 6-spd gearbox. It seemed like the folks at VW-NA just made a list of what everyone wanted and created a product based on those wishes. Hence, the 20th AE GTi, the 337 edition, and the Jetta GLI were born. I doubt what is said on here has much pull, but one can always hope... I guess I'll start with what my wishes for the F10 M5 are: Exterior: - Exterior needs to be sexier than the E63 (I think that will be EZ) - I'd like more wheel arch than I've been seeing on the test mules as well. - Other than that I think BMW is doing a great job. (from what I've seen) - Carbon roof or Panoramic roof as options would be nice - Bright "angel eyes" unlike the dim E92 ones and have them run as DRL Interior: - I hope the next iDrive will blow my mind (I'm coming from an '07 iDrive) -Bigger screen + Faster response + more features - I hope there is internet connectivity - I hope there is the new style of rear seat entertainment with access to aformentioned internet. - I would like to have a suede headliner, heated/cooled/dynamic/massage seats. - Rear seats would be nice if they were somewhat adjustable or cooled - Color options including: dual-tone Black'n'White or Red - Adjustable ambient lighting would be nice (I believe the new S-class can change the interior ambient lights to various different colors.) Technology: - I want Dynamic Cruise Control with Stop-N-Go - Dynamic suspension/throttle adjustments through iDrive - Faster shifting than the E60 M5 - Lane deparature detection - Blind-Spot detection - Rear-view camera w/ BMW's calculated path projection on screen - Rear+Side shades - Night Vision (if it works well) Engine: - V10 TT w/ 600+hp (If not V10, then as long as its TT) Performance: - Out perform the E60 M5 and the new E63 AMG in every aspect - 0-60 mph if 4.0 seconds or faster would be nice as well I hope it comes out in Frankfurt so that I can finally see what we've all been waiting for. I'm also hoping we can get a pretty good idea of the launch date so I can goto my dealer and put the $1,000 down to get on the waiting list for it. (Assuming it comes out alright) Well those are just a few things I'd like to see out of it. What about you guys?

I'd like to see this:
Exterior: I'd like a little more of the clean polished E39 M5 and E46 M3 style and a little less of the E90 & E92 styling. By that I mean I'd like to see less of the bulbous power dome, hood and fender vents and F1 esque lower fascias. I would like to see some reasonably aggressive fender flares that look like they mean business though. Interior: Seems like they have this well under control with what I'm seeing in the new 7 and Z4. I like the driver focused sporty before luxury BMW has always had. Engine: TT or S/C V8: 550hp and 500lb/ft of torque. I love M cars but, historically they get awful fuel mileage. FI will help keep the power we want while getting better fuel economy. I kind of lean towards a super charging for these cars because of the better throttle response and more linear power not to mention they keep a distinctive exhaust sound where turbo cars just sound kind thrashy. The active motor mounts Porsche just came out with seem pretty neat. Good fit for a dual purpose car like the M5. Max comfort and max power transfer. Trans: I'd like the option of manual of dual clutch. Carbon driveshaft. Longer gearing in 6th to help highway mileage. You generally don't use 6th at the track anyway. Suspension, Chassis and Brakes: A carbon brake option would be nice for a car of this weight and power. At the bare minimum a two piece rotor monoblock caliper setup would be great. Electronically adjustable dampeners with unequal length control arms or inverted struts. Lightweight Magnesium wheels. LiIon battery could easily knock as much as 40lbs off the car. Use of more Aluminum in the chassis. Maybe some type of active aerodynamics as well. (lower ride height at certain speeds, splitter that adjusts angle, shutter system on cooling openings) It would also be cool to have a CSL type option at some point in it's life. This car should loose all the luxury electronics, sound deadening, power appointments, sunroof, etc...get the weight down to around 3500lbs. I mean 4100lbs for a car the size of a 5? Also, please keep in mind this is an enthusiast car and while I understand BNMAG not wanting to shell out to fix modded cars (which I completely agree with) at some point they will be out of warranty and it's not fair to limit what people can do to their own car. If there was a way for BMW to protect itself without completely locking out the tuning crowd it would be nice. |

I'm just hoping for the V8TT outa the X6M and I hope they really lighten it up... e60's are amazing but a bit heavy of their feet IMO

like OP said dual tone leather would be nice...as for other things i think bmw got this in a bag
though it would be nice if the car was lighter...the engine should be in the lines of a TT V8(just for gas mileage)

Anyways Ill take one with Exterior 1. Classy understated body kit 2. I agree more flared fenders would be nice without looking like a boy racer wannabe. 3. I like the carbon roof idea as well Interior 1. No electronic crap 2. While were at it, manual seats! 3. Nice sound system is all I would really want Drivetrain/Performance 1. 6.0 V10 NA ~650 Hp 2. Stick or DCT I dont care 3. Sport exhaust option from the factory 4. Lightweight Monolock wheels ala new Porsche Turbos and GT3s 5. Carbon brakes with big 6 piston calipers and painted from the factory for once, maybe blue? Maybe they could just make two variants, an M5 luxury for those who want all the bells and whistles and an M5 sport or CSL for those who would like the practicality of a larger sedan that is still very much a sports car. |

Accross the board, make it weigh less!
With that said.... Exterior -Bigger/more pronounced wheel arches -CF roof or the option for a sun roof delete at the very least -"Individual Edition" with the matte grey pain from the M6 competition package Interior -Aggressive steering wheel. Beefy, perforated leather -Mandatory anthracite headliner -Aluminum trim -Bucket seat option for sure -"Individual Edtion" with the interior from the M6 competition package Drivetrain -Twin turbo V8 from the X5/6 M or... -A built version of the N54 with a S54 block -DCT for sure, 6spd manual option -CF driveshafts to reduce weight -Carbon ceramic brakes -Do something to improve fuel economy. Sheesh. I understand this is a performance car but it would be nice to go more than 300 miles on a tank. -Don't give us a heavy ass V10. This car above all others (save the M3) is supposed to epitomize "The Ultimate Driving Machine" not "The Ultimate Drag Race Machine." I'm placing a deposit on one ASAP at Fields |

1. More agressive fender flares.
2. Lightweight 3. Brembo Brakes 4. Sports Exhaust 5. Manual or DCT. NO AUTO 6. Bucket Seats 7. High revving TT engine, Minimum 7,000 RPM. 8. Please make it a classic BMW and not like the e60-e90 genereation. Dream: A v12 composed of 2 s54's together. Now that would be a car, 666hp and 500ft/lb torque. Raspy and responsive. I know, only in my dreams.

Not just Beat, but slaughter all competitors on every performance front...and not just the Merc or the Audi but also besting the CTS-V, espceically its Nurburgring time.

Here's my wish list:
-Keep the current V10 with the same output -Manual 6 speed or 7 speed DCT (simplified electronic controls for DCT all buttons on Console and steering wheel) -Reduce weight by 500 pounds -6 pot ultra lightweight brakes CSL Model with further weight reduction, no i-drive, carbon fiber fenders, hood, roof, trunk and wheels. Result: an M5 that can handle, considerably quicker acceleration and improved gas mileage from reduced weight, and a more simple focus on performance, let other models be overweight and tech laden for those that want to cruise while touching a million buttons or fusing with the idrive. Unfortunately my prediction is the new M5 will be a 600 hp TTv8, first M ever with an engine from a truck, ever more complex electronics, and a small weight increase over the already overweight current model which BMW will proclaim as a victory considering all the new stuff piled into the larger car. Oh and a 1 MPG improvement in mileage thanks to turbos. Of course it will be fast but so is the X6-M and that vehicle goes against everything "M" apparently used to stand for. |
