Purchase an extended warranty on a new m5?
My new 14 M5 should be in next week. One thing i have not decided on is if i should purchase an extended warranty. I have purchased prepaid maintenance. I intend on keeping the m5 for 5-6 years.
My dealer has quote me the following prices. Platinum: $5590 Gold: $4950 Power train plus: $3210 Any thoughts or experience with break downs between 50,000 and 100,000 miles? is the warranty worth it? Tom |

I wouldn't want to own this car - or any of today's high tech, high performance cars - out of warranty. That being said, I generally (i) wait until the car has about 6 months left on the factory warranty before I buy the extended and (ii) only buy BMW's extended. First, you have the time value of money which is likely to cover any (or at least most) increase in purchase cost. Second, there is always the chance that a car is stolen or totaled in which case you lose the value completely. You might also tire of the car or need to sell it for some other reason. The extended warranty will add value, but not in the full amount you paid for it.
