Burning oil... covered by 4 year service?

What is everyone's experience with getting free top ups been like?

My salesman gave me a few kits of 5W30 but wasn't sure if oil top ups were supposed to be included or not. I'm burning 1L every 1200km.

Does anyone have the definitive answer on this with something in writing from BMW?

In Toronto, I bring my car back to the dealer where I bought and they topped it up without asking any $. They actually know what I am in for when I drive into the service bay.

My oil consumption is identical to yours. However, I started to see it has slowed down somewhat ... now, it's 1 litre for every 1500km.

I'm amazed at your consumption rates I'm at 5500 miles /~9000km and still no burnt oil.

How was your break in?

My dealer isn't charging me anything for additional oil / top offs, their words "if the engine blows because we didn't top off the oil, we'd need to replace your engine".

It's totally up to the dealer if they'll top off the oil.
Now, if the add oil light comes on, your dealer REALLY should fill it up since the car is asking for more oil.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

My closest dealer is 25 miles away. Ordered a case off of Amazon (six bottles), free shipping, and put one in the trunk.

All in anticipation of oil consumption. Not a drop consumed yet (>4k miles)

But the point is that a case is so cheap why bother with the dealership trip? Is it just the principal of the thing?
