Weird Sound on Startup - 2016 BMW M5 F10

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 2016 BMW M5 F10 with 640hp, 700nm, and 80k km on the clock. The car runs perfectly—no check engine lights, no issues with transmission, and everything works like a charm. However, I’ve noticed a strange sound on startup that has me concerned. It’s not something I’ve encountered before, and I’m wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience or might have some insights into what could be causing this.

I’m attaching a video so you can hear the sound for yourselves.

Thanks in advance for any advice or help!

Looks like pulling the gearbox back will find you the loose culprit.

Hey,

I have one more question. I see you have the same car as mine, could you tell me what kind of oil you’re using? If possible, could you also share the brand and a picture of it?

Engine oil is Castrol Edge 0w40 F/S, a3/b4 spec, funnily enough had to top it up yesterday with a litre as top up light came on.
It does say to use Castrol on the oil filler cap.

Thanks for the info! Have you heard of Liqui Moly? Do you know if it’s any good for our cars?

Not sure as I have never used it. I noticed a selling point on the Liqui Moly cans could be the 'Made in Germany' writing but I hope not just this influences people in choosing it.
