Project ColdList Silverstone F10 M5 build thread
Hello all,
I am new to this forum but certainly not new to classy modding on BMWs or BMW boards. I figured the best way to introduce myself would be a build thread on my latest M5. Enjoy! -Mike Ah, nothing like a fresh canvas...one which I SWORE that I would not mod. Well, that was the sentiment that was told my unsuspecting precious little wife on a Thursday when "Mike the sweet, conservative, loving husband" was appeasing her as he was about to sign on the dotted line. But by Saturday, the clouds grew dark, the skies parted to reveal a glimmering full moon that lit the midnight sky......Dr. Frankenstein arose form his sleep and the madness began. Endless thoughts raced through my brain sending charges down my spine to my electrified fingertips as they began dancing away on the keyboard....mmuuuhhahahahaha.......what was out there waiting to be infused into my newest creation? Where were those evil little parts and pieces that magnetized my soul and fed my sickness?! I'll find them and I'll find them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mmuuuhahahahahaha. OK she had to know. C'mon, like I was not going to mod this one too? I guess she just loves me. For that I let her help choose the exhaust (I did overrule the wheels). Here we go my friends. Give me 30 days and she should look stunning! 2013 BMW F10 M5 DCT - Silverstone/Silverstone II Full Leather/Black Piano Trim Already Installed: Bel Stir PLUS Remote Radar/Laser Detector Laser Interceptor Quad Laser Jammers (HP jammers front/Standard rear) Tinted Windows Vorsteiner Carbon Fiber License Plate Frame (anxiously awaiting other Vorsteiner mods:-) Mods in my living room (installing Monday-pics below): IND Gloss Black Grilles IND Gloss Back Fender Vents (inner mesh to be painted body color) IND Body Color Side Markers IND Gloss Black M5 Badge IND BMW Carbon Fiber Performance Spoiler with Body Color Stripe Silver Door Trim Being Painted Body Color on Monday by Magnum Collision Stage 2 Mods (In living room waiting for Body Mods to be completed-pics below): Eisenmann Race Exhaust - Full System - 120mm quad round tips 3M Clear Bra - Full hood, pillars and fenders Stage 3 Mods (As soon as I hit 1200 mile break in service-approx. 1 week) Custom ECU/Tune (+80 hp / 590 lb. ft. torque) Mods Ordered: HRE S101 Wheels Satin Charcoal Centers & Barrel/Brushed Tinted Lip 21x9.5 - front / 21x11 rear w/custom offsets thanks to Ben@Wheels Boutique Michelin Super Sport Tires 265/30/21 - front 305/25/21 - rear H&R Sport Springs ACS Roof Spoiler Waiting to decide: Front Splitter Rear Diffuser (Vorsteiner promises an Aero Kit in March. UPDATE: I started this thread last week on another forum so the "Monday" mods are already installed as is the ECU/Tune. I will post pics later today.
Also, I have deleted the Eisenmann Race exhaust after installation. Not the sound nor visual effect that I was looking for.. Instead have permanently open the valves on the stock exhaust and it now gives a throatier, deeper and slightly louder exhaust note. Waiting on custom tips. |

Pics of latest mods:
BMW Carbon Fiber Performance Spoiler w/Body Color Stripe IND Gloss Black Fender Grilles (Custom body color mesh by Magnum Collision) IND Gloss Black Grill IND Gloss Black M5 Badge Gloss black roof wrap (not thrilled with install-possibly trying a fine quality CF instead while being corrected. I am very picky.) Gloss Black Fin by Magnum Collision Custom ECU/Tune (obviously not pictured.) Car absolutely flies. Rocket on 0 mph starts and varied throttle stomps (80-120mph is insane!) More to come..... |

very nice looking car.
I like the roof wrap with the fin wrapped black to match. What are your window tints?

Hey thanks! LOVE your car. In fact, I have to credit you with the idea for the body color mesh in the fender grilles. I actually was going to order an Orange/Black but I was at the dealer dropping off my Wife's X5 for service and I saw this and had to have it. It was custom ordered and the guy did not close the deal. Had every bit of equipment that I was going to order including the Piano Black trim. The color combo blew me away and she came home with me that day. I am sooooo ridiculously impulsive with these things ad it costs me so much but that's why we are car nuts!

Thanks a bunch! Actually, I have no clue on the tints. It was already on the car. Guessing somewhere around 40%. I would have perhaps gone a tad darker but it works with the look.

Yeah, I am very active on another board. There are several E60 and a couple of us F10 owners heading to C&O tomorrow morning in Alpharetta. Will you be going? If not, I would love to get a bunch of us together for coffee meets. These SoCal guys seem to have very big meets. Making us southern guys look bad! Let me know if you are going to C&O and we can try to connect or if you want to work together to set up another meet. Would be nice to have a group to hang out with on Sunday am. -Mike Last edited by ColdList; 02-02-2013 at 06:25 PM.. |

Yeah. I was looking for something subtle but classy. This is also from IND. They custom paint the stripe when you order. It was very similar to the type of look I had with my Vorsteiner spoiler on my E60-just a touch of carbon-really sets off the rear end.

Is this an OEM part that anyone can order in the US? Or did you obtain it though other channels? Looks amazing.

Mike,
Car looks great! Quick question, how did you permanently open the valves? I mentioned it to my dealer and they were pretty clueless about it. Thanks, Jason |

Lol! Yeah the dealers are clueless. Probably had no idea there even were valves. We literally wired them open. No loss of back pressure or anything crazy. They are there purely to mute sound. BMW has them set to open according to throttle rather than RPM and also on cold start from what I understand. My performance guy is a guru. He did this to his own F10 as well. Sounds really nice and throaty and refined without giving you an obnoxious noise like you get with most aftermarket exhausts and there is none of the common torque loss either. PERFECT solution. Nothing massive. Just nice and clean and a subtle but aggressive sounding note difference from stock. My guy is also working on custom classy looking tips as well. I will post a thread when he has them.
