I just used a wide flat head screwdriver and very gently pried out the whole assembly to replace the bulbs from behind. No instructions - I just used the force ....

I used quite a bit of force too, but didn't work. Did you start prying it out from the front or rear end of the assembly?

I used a credit card to pry off the front of the housing.

Actually, I ordered the tool set from ECS as well.
I will give it another try with credit card. Thanks.

BTW, has anyone changed the reverse light to LED (with built-in resistor to avoid error warning) ?

I've seen such aftermarket LEDs but most will trigger the error, & require additional wiring with resistor).

Did the ECS install - super easy and makes the car look so much more modern. It's perhaps a tiny bit blue for my taste, but a huge improvement over the ancient looking yellow/brown color.

The pic in the front is with LED (perfect match to Silverstone leather and aluminum trim).

The second pic is with stock lighting in the rear dome.

Sorry for the late reply. I just used a wide flat head screw driver from the front of the panel.

After trying many times, I still couldn't get it out.

At the rear of my car, the overhead lights are 1 main + 2 reading. Is yours the same ?

Guess the assembly may be different for different country versions.

"Brightest" is not exactly a selling point in my mind. "Aesthetically pleasing" is much more appropriate for the M5 crowd.

I am wondering same thing? In particular I want to know if the BMW bulbs are covered by new car warranty if I have them installed by a BMW dealer.

Covered by warranty? C'mon stealth you know you won't keep the car more than a year . They're just little light bulbs. Super easy to install or replace.

Yeah I know. But I always make decisions on a long term basis. It's the right thing to do!

I stalled the ecs kit a few weeks ago. So things to know about the kit:

1) The lighting looks great
2) @$79 sale it was a fair price
3) most of the lights were easy to change out and took about 30 min to do with a trim tool kit off of amazon for $20
4) dome light change out looks intimidating but was not that bad

5)2014 trunk light is not the same as the one provided with the kit. I had a spare 5 led wedge bulb, so I used it. It should take the 9led wedge so I have to call to see if they will swap it out or just buy the 9 led wedge bulb(same as used for bottom of doors).

6) my driver and pax foot well lights are already LEDs. Three lights with the middle being red and it's part of the classic lighting with the car. So I did not change these out. Or I would loose the red foot well glow.

7) tried for some time to get the glove box fixture out but was not successful. Will try again soon.

Does my 2014 M5 LCI have the LED interior lights stock?
Or, are these lights better?

On 2014 w/LED

The only LEDs that come stock that I saw were in the driver and pax footwells, lic plate, exterior door handles, headlights, interior mood lights.

This kits replaced all the other non LEDs in the cab and truck.
