Thats my car getting tuned and dyno'd (I have now sold it) but here is my short history:
I got the car in March of 2016 and tried out 2 other tuners first... Both had those amazing dyno plots and showed amazing power. And guess what, for the first few runs each day, the car (under both tunes) showed incredible power and gains. But I was driving this car 30 miles one way on very very open roads with clean lines of sight so I was always on it. After my IAT's heated up both tunes exhibited excessive heat soak and the car clearly lost power. It was like a N/A engine at that point. Now fast forward a few months and I had just got an 2016 M4- VF was local and one of the first tuners to have one for the F8X M cars so I got their tune. It was awesome with great "usable" gains thru the normal rpm ranges and it never soaked. I know that the M5 has deficient cooling but I still expected a better result than the two prior ones I had on the F10. So I gave my car to VF and they tuned my F10. What a difference it made. It was like the M4 in respect that it had usable power and great gains and I never got that dreaded heat soak during my longer spirited runs. Now please dont ask me about the other tuners' names, Ill just say this: The VF tune is perfect and its a real world higher use tune (I was tuned only on 91 octane) and while you might see dynos with higher numbers, those could be points in time while I know this tune was always delivering (ultimately drove the car 3k miles with the tune and zero issues). Edit: I forgot about what the tune did for my exhaust (M Performance Akra)... much louder start up roar as I asked for and those beloved burbles and pops on overruns. Oh I paid for the tune so this is just me typing and I have some credibility here LOL. FYI VF also has tuned my V10 Gen 2 R8 with about 80 AWHP at the crank. And they will be tuning my RS7 Performance soon too:

Thanks for the feedback Vic, it's always nice to hear a customer result whenever a new tune, or any product really, hits the shelves. Do you know if they can remove the limiter and turn off cold start? I see you actually had a roar added to the cold start, but I'm wondering if they can remove it all together for catless.

Thanks for answering. Does the tune remove the check engine light from going catless?

Hey folks, I'll chime in here too... I've got two S63 powered vehicles with tunes from VF Engineering and I'm very happy with both of them.
Both vehicles are used as daily drivers - VF-tuned F85 X5M (for my wife) and VF-tuned F10 M5 (for me). Neither vehicle has any performance modifications other than the ECU tuning. Both vehicles are tuned for and driven on 91 octane pump fuel. Both vehicles passed the wife's test for maintaining stock drivability, but obviously once I 'enable' the tuning (using the M mode buttons) her approval ratings drop a bit! I don't have before/after track times, but here's what I have to say (from a butt dyno perspective) about my S63 VF-tuned vehicles after ~4,000 miles of combined seat time: - Firstly, I'm very impressed with how much can be done just by tweaking software! I was expecting some basic a/f ratio tuning and maybe some additional boost, but there's obviously a LOT more going on here. - Both vehicles make noticeably more power than they did with the OEM tune! - Both vehicles have a more aggressive exhaust note compared to the OEM tune. This is especially noticeable on the X5M... In fact, I've been asked by several car enthusiast types, "What kind of exhaust is that?" On that note, here's an interesting side story on how/why I ended up getting these vehicles tuned... It all started because I wasn't happy with the exhaust note of either vehicle. I had test driven a Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 63S before deciding to go with the X5M. Even though I opted for the X5M, the exhaust note of the AMG GLE 63S haunted me! So, I set out to get aftermarket exhausts installed on both vehicles. VF convinced me to give their tuning a try, before getting the Akra exhausts I wanted. All in all, I'm pretty happy about the way things turned out here. It feels like I got more than I was hoping for because the VF tuning cost less than the exhaust would have... And the tuning included a bunch of stuff above and beyond an improved exhaust note - Win/Win, right!?!

I see stage 2 offers check engine light removal, do you guys offer a stage 1 with catless downpipes? I ask because my car as it stands now has 63k on the clock and I don't want to push to the stage 2 power, I would like to stay around the stage 1 power but with a little extra sound from catless.
Also does the check engine light removal only suppress it for the o2 deficiency and still lets other issues make the light come on? Thank you |
