Agreed x2!

I don't think he knew about the Active Sound Shit. I loved this car before I knew about that "feature" - it's like the soul of the car (and slowly M division) is gone. It looks like a fantastic car aside from that but that's a hell of a lot of money for a 5er.

I reckon that he did (..conjecture either way we slice it), and it was either not equipped with the option or it was disabled. How could someone like him - an individual who reviews automobilies for a living - NOT know about the option? The interior of the cabin was quiet.

If you compare 1:32-1:36-ish of this Autocar video to the video on this link (..pay close attention to 0:22-0:30), the Active Sound is noticeably louder and more pronounced, especially in the higher rev range. The car that Steve was driving was not this loud at WOT.

Are you serious? Auto journalists FREQUENTLY don't know the car they are driving from a cup of coffee. They often spout off incorrect facts and specifications. On top of that, most reviewers I've seen (particularly the American magazines) are absolutely awful drivers.

With that said, Autocar is one of my favorites and I respect Sutcliffe and consider him among the best so if we're talking about him in particular, I do think he would have taken the time to find out what options and features the car he was driving had.

Active sound aside, and I'm sure it can be turned off anyways, I'm really glad he liked it. The M5 is almost a perfect car if you ask me.

Yes, my entire post was in reference to Sutcliffe specifically......

....thus, we agree!
