This is blasphemy. I am furious. The E63 was always going to be more of a monster imo. I am still taking the M5!!

Not too many reactions overhere. How come.

I''d still choose the M5. Looks the best in- and outside. Still a bit of a Q-car. I like that.
I don't like the Merc's dasboard layout. The Jag overall looks ok.

"...at no time does it feel as sharp as the E63..."

Is this an M5 we're talking about???

This doesn't jive with the unanimous 5-star reviews this car has been getting.

Part of me says they just wanted to shock people with the conclusion.

I would still go for the M5. It is just one magazine's opinion putting the Mecedes ahead of the M5 when stats show all three are at par.

Agreed. But that makes me thing, they don't just say that. I always also thought Merc was a softer platform of the two, more body roll, etc... but seems like they've fixed that.
Does anyone know if the Merc had the Double-Clutch trans as well? It only shows "Auto" in the charts. I Know Merc has a DCT like trans so wondering if that was really not in E63 and why?

This review doesn't surprise me. I still DONT GET how BMW DOES NOT put ANY emphasis on how the CAR SOUNDS!!!!!! Noise makes everything 1000000000 times more exciting and memorable, it thrills you and makes you feel like you are driving a race-car. Everyone knows that the BMW is the better car, but why would you buy such a wonderful machine if it makes you feel like you are driving a regular 5 series. I know that 4.4liter v8 can growl, give it to us BMW!!!!!

Maybe if the M5 went on a diet it would have won! BMW used to make light weight M cars, what happened to that? 100kg more than the E63, wow

If not for the front of the E63 I would be all over it, I can't stand how the hood looks (emblem sticking up and grill) I like the looks of the C63 and CLS63 hood much better, not sure why they went old school with the E63.

BMW better watch their backs, CTS-V, E63, RS6 could all beat it and be cheaper (well two of the three, RS6 will be stupid expensive like always)

Does it seem odd to anyone that they would post the verdict on the cover?

MCT, it's essentially a single wet clutch mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission (planetary gears). Definitely not as good as an M-DCT, but better than a normal automatic transmission using a torque converter.

BMW is not what they used to be. All good things must come to an end.

Hmm.. I've driven a friend's CLS 63AMG and that thing was a BEAST! I can only imagine the new E63 having said that, I'll hold my opinion until I drive the new M!

I don't really think weight is the primary problem. BMW seems to do a good job at countering the weight. I'm not saying the F10 M5 is the better car here, it's just hard to come to a conclusion with one verdict from one magazine that doesn't really match up to what the reviews are saying. I mean do they mean when they say it isn't as sharp as the E63? ...

If other head-to-head comparisons are the same, it looks like BMW lost it's focus and did what Mercedes usually does, focus on being an all-rounder with performance rather than being strictly performance. It's going to be REAL interesting how the F30 M3 is going to turn out.

I'm a bit surprised but on the other hand, this verdict aligns closely with those of us whose sentiment is that turbos take away from the experience. We all know turbos are faster and more efficient and this test certainly shows that, but the excitement is severely (and to some of us, critically) diminished. Not only that, the hydraulic steering appears to be a sore spot (also something we suspected).

Too bad. I must say, unbiased, that the M5 is the best looking car in the pack, though. Best interior as well.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Didn't the M3 weigh around 3700+ lb and the C63 around 3600? (going to check right now.)

EDIT: Yeah you're right. The C63 is sitting around 3900lb.

I'm surprised by the outcome. I never thought possible that a Merc AMG can out-handle a BMW M spec car.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter because buyers of these cars will never push them to the max nor are they capable.

Is this bizzaro world? Merc is beating BMW at an area where BMW used to dominate, Driving experience?

I've read so many comparisons where BMW didn't stack on performance #'s but still won the vote based on driving dynamics/experience....

This has to be a first!
