Opti Guard

It won't work. It is glossy so it will ruin the finish.

BTW OptiGuard only helps prevent the kind of light scratches and swirls that affect glossy paint. As far as I can tell frozen paint doesn't have this issue. So you only need to worry about deeper scratches like those caused by flying gravel. Unfortunately nothing short of a clearbra will protect your paint from those.

Opti Guard is stronger than clear coat. It locks in the perfected paint from the detailer.

I paid $300 to polish the paint and $300 to opti guard it. You dont need to wax it again. You can wax to give it a little extra shine but not needed. Opti is slick and doesnt allow things to stick to it. Replaces waxing and protects the clear coat.

You can wash it easier as well. A hose will rinse most dirt off. That is the idea. If you run it though car washes (yikes, never) you will develop scratches faster but it is pretty tough. Maybe a few years down the line you might want to polish the opti guard to take any imperfections out of it.

Opti Guard is permanent. It isnt like synthetic wax that wears off after 4-12 months. This is on for good. You would have to machine polish the heck out of it to get it off. Once I get some photos of my car I will post.

My black metallic looks wet and deep. Car has a mirror finish and looks AMAZING. Works very well on windows (perm Rain X like results) and wheels (brake dust will not build up or stick)


Having never done it before I am very happy with the results.

I do like the idea of a coating on the wheels to make brake dust just wash off. Sounds too good to be true!

Mine is getting polished and opticoat done on December 8th. Ill try to post some pics up as well. Some guy did a 2 year review on Opticoat with half car done, and half not. Was amazing the difference.

This is what confused me - I saw Opticoat was $70 to buy, and wondered why I was quoted $650 for Optiguard. Assumming the Optiguard quote entails much prep work as well. Thx!

Has anyone ever expressed any downside to Optiguard? Ill have Alpine White, and issues with discoloration over time due to the chemicals?

My Optiguard is on Black Met and it looks great. It is only a week old and my first time with it so I dont have first hand knowledge about long term coloring.

Thomas Dekany did the work and this guy is an expert detailer. Extremely talented and he has applied it for years. He said it will act like a super clear coat and not give me any problems.

Guy is a pro and I believe what he says. Go for it. Just be sure the $650 included a wash, clay, professional level polish (you will be locking in the polish results good or bad) and optiguard application.

Go on some detail websites and ask around. You will find a high end guy to do the polishing. Dont skimp because again, this is permanently locking in whatever you have done.

From what I have read, the difference between the DIY opti-coat 2.0 and the "PRO" Optiguard is the cure time. The DIY version has a slower cure time to allow the novice more time to "get the application right" before it hardens.

The extra cost you were quoted is all labor time. There will be a full exterior detail and "paint correction" BEFORE the Optiguard is applied. I believe the detail is roughly $300 and then the application is roughly $300. Leading to your total cost.

One other tidbit I read was that the DIY opticoat is not approved for exterior windows. This has nothing to do with the product, only that if not applied correctly it will leave a haze and affect visibility. The PRO applied product is usually applied to the windows without issue.

This is all from reading/other user comments. I personally have not used or had this product applied yet. I also have a white car.

Stealth did you do whole car, or just part with Opti? Are you going clear bra it with Suntek or something else?

My guy took about as long. He was here all day. This Tuesday I will have the car done in Suntek PPF C. All the areas that typically get rock chips.

Yes the Suntek is going over the Opti guard but that's ok. I want the paint protected and having an extra layer of "clear coat" is good. In the end the car is very protected and if the Suntek has to come off I have Opti underneath.

Are you guys talking about Opticoat 2.0? Is that the same as Opti-Guard?

I bought and applied Opticoat 2.0 to my entire F10 M5. I even did all of the windows, my wheels, my side view mirrors, inside the door jams, and even my interior Piano Black Trim. I have tested it already as well and the shit works. I am even going to apply it on top of my clear-bra when I get my clear-bra installed. I have sprayed water on it, it beads off. I have gotten the M5 dirty and the dirt still sticks to the panels but it comes off much easier. On the wheels the brake dust from the F10 M5's brake pads gets insane, and the brake dust does come off easier, although a little elbow grease is still required to get it all off. I have taken credit cards and the blunt ends of keychains and tried to scratch the paint in inconsipicous areas and the paint will not scratch. It's amazing! The other night I ran through a big puddle and about after 15 minutes of driving the entire M5 was completely dry.

I want to make some videos of the qualities of the Opticoat 2.0 product, it's really unbelievable. And now I laugh when ever I take the M5 to a detailer and they ask if I want a wax or paint sealant. I laugh in the their face and say, no thanks, just a basic wash dude. Lol!

By the way I applied the product myself. It took about 6 hours total to do everything that I mentioned. The product only costs like $65 bucks online and then it needs about 12 to 24 hours to cure. I think it's a waste of money to have a detailer do it. Unless you seriously don't have the time.

Ah, now I understand the difference between Opticoat 2.0 and Opti-Guard.

I did apply the Opticoat 2.0 to my windows and glass and the only reason they don't reccommend it is because of the possibility of streaking while applying the product in addition to what you said. It went on the windows just fine. I had no issues whatsoever with streaking or hazing.

I have a question for your detailer if you don't mind asking. I want to know if you can use something on top of OptiGuard to really amp up the gloss to what you might get with 22PLE.

I know Dekany posted that he liked HD Nitro Seal. I'd like to know if nitroseal can be applied to Optiguard.
