I'm very tempted to go 21"... mistake?
I think the point of getting aftermarket wheels is to change to look of your car and make it your own.
That being said... my M5 came with the 20" wheels on it. I just am having a hard time forking out the $$$ on wheels to replace them with the same size as stock. not only 20", but the same exact tire size as well.... I think the 20" on the F10 fit the car like the 19" did on the E60. I think there is room to go up a size. I know I will take a hit it ride quality, but is it worth it? That all being said, what would you do? FYI, I deciding between the HRE P40SC and P43SC.

I went 21's and love the look and find no difference in ride quality, just saying. You can't go wrong.

It all depends on the road surface for your dailing driving .
With 21s you have little rubber left and every pothole/large bump (bridge overpasses etc) is a potential hazard to have your wheel bent or worse. I was also very tempted but decided against 21s as driving in downtown Boston(ia) is bad enough on 20s

The look is great, but I did this once on a 550 and watching out for every pot hole gets old. Bent wheels are not fun, and will happen over time that's just my experience. I ordered the upgraded 20' wheels and satisfied with the look and drive.
I agree the look is great, but no fun checking for scratched lips/ baby sitting wheels. Just my 2 cents. |

We've done 21" wheels on quite a few F10 M5s and they've had no problems. Ride quality does depends on the road conditions though. Let me know if I can be of any assistance, would love to get your F10 M5 on a set of our wheels!

Do it. Just be sure to do it with a strong quality wheel. Should be minimal negative impact to comfort and driving characteristics.

thanks everyone. My ONLY concern is the roads in Houston are not the best... I did have 21's on my 750Li and found myself playing "pothole dodgeball"... but I think the soft suspensin on the 7 contributed to the harshness... if that makes sense.

Ride quality to me did not make much difference ...but performance you will definitely feel it. Braking got worse and acceleration got slower...after few months I went back to stock size. But if ur all about looks then 21 is fine

I went to 20s on my E60, but on my F10 I'll stick with 20s. Houston roads are bad enough as it is... Plus, I'll be installing a set of H&R springs soon, and one must take that into account when considering 21s.

I like form and function---- 21 inch wheels weigh alot---- my 20 inch HRE's weigh 21 lbs and you will notice 7 to 8 lbs per corner in the increase unsprung weight. Couple that with increase rotation mass/inertia and performance drops.
But it all depends on your needs and how you drive. I like to drive my cars fast and never want the performance to suffer. I have tested 21 inch wheels on my CLS63TT with HRE and I could clearly tell the difference from a dig and roll with the 21's on vs the 20's and that was with HRE's which are lighter. But thats me. YMMV.

No thats a C63 Black Series so the wheels are stock and I got it them in the factory black matte finish. But they do look very P43 like.
Here is a better pic: ![]()

I agree, the 20's are step on the 19's but arent they forged vs the cast 19's? The optimal wheel would probably be an 18 inch wheel but I think most would agree that they could not live with the looks with 18s on a F10 body. I couldnt so Id forgo optimal performance for form. At some point performance takes too much of a hit personally and for me its the weight gains on 21's. HRE has done amazing things with their 20 inch monoblock line to keep weight down and thats why Im good with 20's (mine are around 21 lbs front and rear) instead of going to 19's. Another thing with 21's is that in order to keep your diameter similar or the same as factory you need to run 30 series tires up front and 25 series in the rear. You will lose some performance handlingwise as your series percentages drop. I dont run any 25 series on any of my cars anymore. I used to with my M6, E63, CLS63TT and E63TT wagon but with the M I want the optimal setup for my driving needs. This is the same for my Black Series, GTR, 997.2TT as well.

So what wheels do you order, haven't seen 21" HRE P40SC-series wheels yet.
