Some mixed news today. The good news: I was on the phone with Jon at ADV1 and he is sure that they have a 19x9.5 forging that will clear the brakes. The bad news: their lead time is running at 7 weeks right now. I dont think Im going to wait that long. This saga has been ongoing for me since August and I dont want to wait till January to get wheels. Im probably going to order a set of 408M's tomorrow.
Ill cross post this news in the general 19" aftermarket thread as well. If someone is going to go ahead and get them, make sure to have ADV1 double and triple check the fit and make sure you can return them if they dont end up clearing the brakes. I trust them and all, but, Im also a little jaded at this point. |

Here's some shots of the BMW OEM recommended winter wheel (model 408). They look pretty good, although the back wheels could use a bit more offset.

Has anyone mounted winters on the OEM 19" rims in a staggered set-up versus the 255/40-10 square? If so, can you tell me the sizing you went with?
We do not experience lots of snow here so I don't want and/or need the 255/40-19 square set-up, and would much rather go with a staggered set of tires, even if they're not as staggered as the OEM 265/40 and 295/35 sizes. TIA, Bish |

For staggered 19", you are going to find it hard to get tires at those sizes, in the same brand/model.

At least here in Europe Pirelli offers the Sottozero in 255/40/19 + 295/35/19.
And Michelin PA4 in 265/40/19 + 285/35/19.

And the saga for me comes to a close. The 408M's arrived yesterday afternoon and they were mounted today with Michelin Pilot Alpin PA 4, 245/40R19's. Im still sort of non-plussed about having to use the OEM set, but hey, at least they fit.

Decided to go with Pirelli Sottozero Series II 255/40-19 front and 295/35-19 rear. Just waiting a couple of weeks for the 255/40-19 fronts to show up at the Tirerack. These will be mounted on OEM 19" wheels. Big thanks to Luke at the Tirerack; a pleasure to work with as always, and to all of you guys for your advice also.

Powder coating winter 408M wheels?
After seeing the M6 GC test mule in white with what appears to be black BMW M408 winter wheel setup I am thinking that I will do the same to my M408 wheel set to make them look a little different that stock silver. I need to decide between black and gunmetal. I am thinking I will go with gunmetal.
Anyone else contemplating (or done) a powdercoat on their M408 winter wheels?

I know the winter is about to say goodbye very soon(hopefully), dealers seem to have some style 408m wheel/tire set available now. They are asking $4300/set before mounting/balancing/installation. What sort of discount I can expect to reach a good deal? or should probably buy them somewhere?

You can also go a different route and build your own set. I bought the wheels ($2,225) and TPMS ($354) from getBMWparts.com. You may be able to find a set of tires at TireRack.com or other tire retailer at a nice discount given it's almost spring.

Do NOT buy them now. In Toronto, you can get them @ dealer cost around Jul / August time. $4300 is what every dealers in Canada is selling for as MSRP.
If you must buy now, I suggest to buy them from the States and have them ship to you and after paying duties/taxes/shipping, you still save some $. If you buy aftermarket wheels, just be very careful, there are still no known 19" wheels that will fit/clear the M5 front & rear brakes. That's my past experience and it was a major pain. Quote:

After reading through the threads, I think I am going to go for the 408m BMW setup. Question is, should I buy now assuming the dealer is willing to sell them at $3600 instead of $4300 (of course those are before tax prices). I will go back to the dealer and speak to them regarding to that since they have my car in to fix a flat tire I had last night.

As an aside I'm very happy with my winter set-up of OEM 19" wheels with Pirelli Sottozero Series II tyres. They have performed very well in the recent blizzard conditions. A caveat: I haven't driven the car in really deep snow as it would just 'snowplow', and I know these tyres aren't 'Blizzacks', but overall the car has gone everywhere I've wanted it to.
