Gas consumption better?

Based on differing gas consumption with an M5 model being the constant, it seems that it is the type of (inefficient) driving that is leading to too much gas consumption. No matter how efficient a car is designed and constructed but with drivers doing inefficient driving methods, gas consumption will just go up. Say for instance that you see that the traffic light is red and you are 200 feet away, easing on the gas and using sheer momentum (say you are doing aroung 30-40mph) would be enough to get you close to to light and stop (brake) -- however if a driver still puts on gas just to get quicker to the same stopping spot, then the driver is just wasting gas. I could cite other methods of inefficient driving. Unless you are on a track and racing there is really no need to contantly step on the gas then quickly step on the brakes to control speed or slow down (unless of course for security or safety reasons). I have already driven 2400 miles and my gas consumption averages 20mpg.

Just read the post, mine gets 11.8 L / 100km or 20 mpg, its all hwy driving, my 911 turbo gets 10.8 L / 100km all hwy driving, as a comparison my wifes X5M gets 15.3 L / 100km all in town driving.

I don't know what post you are referring to, but the OP has stated that he was getting 12.25mpg (and commented was almost half what I was getting), another posted 17.1 and yet another at 18.9 mpg. And others share the same mileage I am getting 20-23mpg. If you are getting 20mpg then that is better mileage than what you probably may be getting on a previous M5 model so in short, the turbo has increased the efficiency of the new M5 compared to previous models.

I should have said thread sorry for the confusion. I was not complaining about the fuel consumption just stating what our vehicles are consuming regarding fuel.

Hi everyone

I care about consumption because I have been lucky in the past to run a m sport 335d for 2 years, all the real world performance in the world and I regularly got 900 km out of a tank...then went to an m3 which I loved, but had 2 years of very regular visits to the petrol station...now to the f10 m5 I've only filled it once so far but it's looking like its exactly the same as the m3....But feels like the 335d in terms of surge, and is much bigger which suits the school run etc...

One day I will do the rational thing and buy a 535d m sport...especially as one of my bus partners has a panamera diesel! (lucky the other has a TT S6 Audi...)

The diesel was great never having to fill it up! Plus I like to know the numbers!

I'm getting 15 on the nose, which is better than my sub 12 avg on the e60

Range is the key, and that is a massive improvement

I'm getting 17-18 mpg at the moment which is incredible because 90% of my driving has been in heavy London traffic. My e60 managed only 12 mpg for the same drive. Got 349 miles out of my last tank - the e60 would never have come close.

These numbers are considerably better than the 12.6 I average in my E60 M5; 50/50, but I tend to wind it out to listen to the music...

Hi can I ask what you get with "out of town driving only" as thats what I will be doing 95% of the time , thanks in advance.
