My M5 is here!!! But... :(

I have to wait about two weeks before picking it up due to some personal reason. There were some rain and strong wind here in SoCal lately. Should I be worried that my car is left in the outdoor dealership parking lot for two weeks?

Rain and wind? Really? Worried about what exactly? If they left the windows open, then yes. You should worry. If theyre all closed up, I think you may just be ok. I hear the Blue cars are ok in the rain.

Good luck with your new beast. What color is your interior?

If you got frozen blue it will melt if left out in bad weather that long.

Better call and make sure they keep it covered.

It's not frozen blue, it's Monte Carlo Blue. Should I be worried?

BMW sells cars in other places than California where it actually rains more often than there is sunny days. There should be no reasons to worry about the car being able to withstand rain...

Demand a new car. This is an outrage. Your car should be on the showroom floor with velvet ropes around it and under no circumstances should it EVER be taken outside. Like ever.

You are fucked. The acid rain will rust your car away with 2 weeks.

I suggest you get a bridge loan and buy it earlier.

German cars are not built to endure rain and/or wind, since Germany has a sunny and moderate climate all year round. Your situation clearly warrants a complimentary 2 day M school, free 100k warranty and maintenance, and at least a $10k discount. I would expect nothing less.

Of course. Some of us take weather damage seriously. Who wants to spend 100k+ on a weather damaged car!

Heavy wind can cause dust particle contamination on the rotors and thus brake failure. It pits the surface and bonds creating a very uneven surface. Less surface contact means less stopping power.

Ceramic brakes do not have this issue, so if the car is going to be outside that long I strongly suggest upgrading the brakes.

Either way you need to call the dealership and make them aware of your concerns. They should know that if they pit and bond your brakes or melt your paint they are responsible.

Good luck buddy.

Are we talking about rain and some wind, or hurricane conditions?

Guys, please take this thread seriously. We are currently experiencing some severe cold weather here, many people have been affected, not to mention the number of cars that are left stranded out in this perfect storm right now.

It's 25 at night up here and 32-38 during the day. My black sapphire is now frozen black.

Icy and not fun. Love to have your 48 degree "arctic blast"

Those are just some of the conditions that can destroy a BMW parked outside. Lets not forget:

Hail
Tornadoes
Sandstorms (SoCal is close to the Mojave desert)
Random gravitational singularities
Earthquakes
Cyclones

Plus

- Squirrels have been known to get in the engine bay and eat all the wiring
- Elves have been known to vandalize or even steal cars on dealer lots
- Homeless people have been know to take shelter by breaking car windows and then sleeping in the backseat while using the front passenger seat as a bathroom
- Registered democrat voters have been known to repossess these cars to give away to the lazy, oops , I mean disadvantaged
- Frenchmen getting confused that it might be New Years Eve and torching it
- Vancouver tourists smashing the car for recreational entertainment

Yep. The dealer lot is no place to store a BMW.

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever outside. Like ever.

I recently had a private tunnel commissioned from my garage to my work so that I can commute without ever driving my M5 outside. Like ever. Best thing I've ever done. Pricey but so worth it.
