Does the fact that cars ordered for ED now come from regular dealer allocation mean that the ED discount is no longer in effect? My dealer in Chicago told me that there is no longer any ED discount.

It is still available - I negotiated a total of $10k off including ED discount. Not the greatest deal but I was happy with it.

I recently received a quote for 3k off ED MSRP. not sure if this is a good deal or not. Some smaller dealers are only offering me ED MSRP.

That would be $80600, almost $10k off US MSRP. It's about invoice+$2k.

So how far out should I see more updated info on BMWUSA. Since Day 1 its said "Processing order". Im assumming since I have a March 23rd ED, my car will go into production some time in February, however nothing has been updated.

1.) When should I expect to see my Production Week added
2.) When should I expect an assigned VIN (I have the production #)

Just curious so I know when to start hounding my dealer (who is out sick right now so don;t want to harass him)

You'll see a production week once production has been scheduled (status 87) and a VIN
around status 111

A rough guess for a production start is appr 2 weeks prior to delivery (if you're doing ED)
If you ordered BMW Individual (special paint/interior etc) it will be earlier (mine was built almost 6 weeks prior to my ED)
It's all just in time and there's also limited holding space at The Welt

Wow two weeks only - so thats why I dont see anything yet. Im just paranoid, we booked our whole trip already. Im scared to get to Welt and have them tell me my M5 isnt ready!

You'll be fine. Enjoy the suspense waiting for ED, waiting for re-delivery will be much worse

Seriously - talk about a tease. I hope Im on the short end of the 6-8 week estimate. Not to mention my in-laws just called to tell us their 1993 5 series crapped out, which I was going to borrow to hold me over since im trading in. Neither the wife or I drive to work so we only have one car. Guess I need to take out the mountain bike.

On a separate note, anyone know of extended car rental options at reasonable rates?

So got my loan approved @ 1.49% but they won't release the funds until I provide a VIN. My delivery date is March 23rd (confirmed) and I need to have the funds by March 9th at the dealer (2 weeks prior). As of now BMWUSA does not have a VIN assigned yet. When can I expect to get that assigned?

Don't worry, BMW dealers understand you can't complete financing without a VIN; it should be available about 2 weeks before your Munich delivery.

Is your car in production yet? Usually VIN is available by end of production. If it is not in production yet, it should be by Monday.

Don't worry. Dealer won't ask you for payment before VIN is available. They can't sell a car without a VIN.

Its been a while that ive been with BMW so forgot when I get the VIN. Thing is Im leaving for Europe just three days after the car goes into production, but then BMW prefers having the car paid for for ED 2 weeks prior to ED.

Regardless, I called PenFed and got a manager to approve my loan based on my history and the fact that I had a purchase order with a production #. Cant believe Im finally getting an M5.

I had the same issue a coupe of years ago. The paperwork arrived after I had already left for Europe. Fortunately my assistant was able to sign the paperwork on my behalf with the autopen and notarize. I paid the money by wire transfer (free with Schwab).

This must happen pretty often for ED then as Im assuming some people choose to leave earlier and do ED towards the end of the trip. I called dealer last night and still no VIN. What I dont understand is why they need a VIN to take my money. I will be providing my C63, $20k in cash and a check from my credit union for the balance. Do they need the VIN for me to finalize the deal prior to me leaving? Just take my money already!

ED delivery - 3/23
Production - 3/11
Departure for Italy - 3/15

Because of work, the only day I can finalize the deal is 3/9.

you're lucky, rates went up to 1.79% recently....penfed deal was awesome.

Yea it went up the day after I got my 1.49% - they told me as long as I use it in a week im good at 1.49%. It's only about $240 difference in interest, but I feel like I won.

You totally won, I was psyched because I came down from the BMWFS 3.29% to the 1.49%, so I saved apparently $1800 over the course of the loan
