Proof that they should rename the F10 M5 to the M7!

So when I got home from work today, I noticed a peculiar BMW in the parking lot. When I examined it closer, I saw that it was actually am E65 760Li! Pretty rare car, I would say. So I appreciated it for a minute and then went into my house. I then got to thinking that this would be a great opportunity for a size comparison with an E65 BMW. I pulled my M5 out of my garage and parked next to the 760Li. What I saw confirmed my beliefs. The F10 is nearly as massive as an E65 7 series. Seems like the E65 is definitely wider than the F10 and the roof line is a tiny bit higher than the F10, but jeez, this reinforces my belief that we are truly driving a fast 7 series. Just my opinion. Although it handles and drives nothing like an E65 7 series and more like an M3, but man these new BMW's are getting too big for me personally. I'm seriously considering a 2015 ///M4 coupe as my next BMW. Don't think that I'll be getting the next generation ///M5 if they are going to keep making them bigger. It's getting out of control I think. Anyways, just wanted to make a silly post and hope that you enjoy the pictures.

Hmmmm. Great comparison, and even better pix!
I think you could fit the M5 inside the 7 though. Every dimension on the 760 looks bigger. Not by much, but it makes a difference.
I share your puzzlement about the perpetual growth of pretty much every model from every manufacturer. What will BMW do when the 1 series is as big as the current 3's and they need a model to fit the 'nimble' category? 0.5xx? I'd buy the M version of that! M.5...

Good point...I am slightly disappointed that it appears my F10 is smaller in the rear seating area than my E60

RPi,

I'm with you on this whole size-increase thing. I'm placing myself down for the M4 GC as my next vehicle if it looks as good as the renders.

RPIM5, when I saw the picture of both BMW's from the front the thought that went through my mind was: Wow that M5 is sooooo good looking. The 760 probably cost 25-30k more and I would much rather have the M5 every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Yes the M5 is getting bigger but it still rocks!!!!

Wow. This means that the M5 is probably the same length and the 750i and 760i. I can tell you that personally owning a 745li and working on and driving plenty of F10 M5's, you would have never even thought that both cars are similar in size. The 65/E66 7series feels huge. Sometimes a good thing and sometimes not. Versus the F10 feels tighter and more wrapped around the driver.

I think the beauty of the M5 is that it is a gadget filled luxury car with amazing performance. Those power seats, air conditioning, HUD, iDrive, and all that add weight. I also like that it's bigger by a bit (1" in the shoulders) than my E60. But I want all that stuff AND then as high performance a car as they can make, so for me, it's cool.

Say what you want about size but I am 6'3 and in my E60 I could not have a full sized adult of 5'8+ sit behind me without bringing my seat up a few inches. In the F10 that is no longer a problem and much welcomed. Also its nice to know that if I need to hide four other people I can put them in the trunk - its that damn big!! LOL. I tell everyone the new M5 is the old 7 series with a powerful engine, new suspension, and a manual transmission. Hahaha..

Haha! That's a pretty awesome picture! We can totally fit 4 bodies in the trunk!

We have a spare 2004 MB S500 sitting around and I noticed a few days ago, parked next to it, that they were nearly identical on length! I was shocked.
